Ashburn Magazine: As the Worm Turns
“Local business brings composting to your doorstep”
By Jill Devine for Ashburn Magazine | July 7, 2023
Worm Works is in this month’s Ashburn Magazine issue!
Subscriber Katie Eibner sat down with Jill Devine to tell all about her journey composting with Worm Works. Eibner explains why she got into composting, gives tips on how she keeps her kitchen clean while sorting her food waste, and discusses how she will put her bucket of premium compost to good use (read about our Compost Back program for subscribers).
“The amount of [food] waste that fills our bin is pretty shocking. Even with the monthly collection fee, I save money, because seeing all that waste motivates me to stop over-purchasing.” —Eibner
Devine also spoke with our heads of Operations George Ardura and Michelle Wendt, who dove deeper into the story of our founding and how the two became business partners through a shared love for worm composting. They share their hopes to expand our services to more of the Loudoun and Fairfax communities, compost bin by compost bin.
“I was one of Worm Works’s early customers. Not everyone can or wants to bring composting into their own backyard… Our service makes composting easy.” —Wendt
Last but not least, we hear from our resident Farm Manager Trisha McKnight, who’s turned her childhood examples of recycling into dreams of an even greener future with composting—taking organic waste and giving it back to the Earth.
