PLANTS

Your houseplant and yard trimmings are perfect for our compost piles.

We list just a few things to look out for below!

Still unsure whether you can compost your item? Check our “Other Items” section, or send us a question here.

Plant Trimmings / Yard Waste

DO compost:

  • living or dead plant trimmings (leaves, flowers, twigs, grass clippings, etc.)

DO NOT compost:

  • suspected diseased plants — These pathogens will pollute the compost.

    • Unsure how to identify these or how to dispose of them? Here’s a link to get you started.

  • plant pots (plastic, ceramic, etc.)

  • wood treated with inorganic chemicals or paint

See our wood products section for more.

Friendly reminder! When collecting yard waste, look out for noncompostable yard debris, such as:

  • small plastics (i.e. toys or bits that may have gotten caught in your lawn mower)

  • plant ties and netting

  • plastic bag scraps
